Freaky Friday (2003)

Anna Coleman (Lindsay Lohan) is an average teenager with a stressful life due to her stodgy widow mother Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and annoying younger brother Harry (Ryan Malgarini). The conflicts revolve around: Tess' upcoming second marriage to Ryan (Mark Harmon), which Anna is not emotionally ready for because of her father's death three years ago; Anna's pop rock band Pink Slip, which Tess hates because according to Anna, she thinks that they are all noise; Anna's claims about her archrival Stacey Hinkhouse (Julie Gonzalo) who doesn't stop torturing her and has Tess convinced that she and Anna are still best friends like they used to be; and her sadistic English teacher, Mr. Elton Bates (Stephen Tobolowsky) who gives her an "F" on everything she does no matter how hard she tries. Tess also disapproves of Anna's crush, Jake (Chad Michael Murray), an older student.

The entire family, plus Ryan, eats out at Pei-Pei's Chinese restaurant, where Anna begs Tess to let her go on an important audition with the band. However, Tess refuses to let her go since the show is on the same Friday as the rehearsal dinner. The two begin arguing again until Pei-Pei's mother interrupts to give them fortune cookies, which contain a body switching spell, causing an earthquake only they felt. The next morning, Tess and Anna wake up in each other's bodies, figuring that the fortune cookies are responsible for the switch, but cannot go directly to the restaurant as Anna has to go to school and Tess has to attend to her therapy patients, taking each other's roles. At school, Tess finds that Anna is not only right about Stacey when she assaults her, but Mr. Bates also gives her an "F" on a pop quiz about Shakespeare's Hamlet even though she answered everything right. She soon recognizes him as a former classmate who asked her out to the prom, but she turned him down, and he is now taking it out on Anna. She threatens to report him to the school board unless he stops abusing Anna.

Before Anna goes to Tess' office, she gives Tess' body a makeover, much to her dismay. At lunch time, Anna and Tess go back to the restaurant to confront Pei-Pei and her mother, but Pei-Pei explains that only showing selfless love to one another will break the spell. In the afternoon, Anna attends Harry's parent-teacher conference, where she reads a composition about how much Harry actually admires Anna. She sees her brother in a different light and vows to treat him nicer. Meanwhile, Tess attempts to make amends with Stacey but she frames her for cheating. Jake helps her finish the test, which makes Tess realize that she has misjudged him. Unfortunately, Jake is no longer enamored with "Anna" after Tess sabotages Stacey's test.

Meanwhile, Ryan surprises Anna with an interview on a talk show to discuss Tess' new psychology book. However, Anna turns the interview into a wild romp to cover the fact she hasn't read the book. Tess and Jake catch the interview on TV and while Tess is embarrassed, Jake is impressed. Later, Anna bumps into Jake at a coffee shop and they bond over their favorite music. Jake begins to fall in love with "Tess" and attempts to pursue her, much to the real Tess' horror.

At the rehearsal dinner, Anna's bandmates come to try to convince "Anna" to sneak off to the audition but they are caught by security. Ryan surprises Tess and Anna by giving "Anna" permission to go. Ryan explains that he just wants the kids to accept him and Ryan urges "Tess" to go support the band, finally winning her over. Since Tess can't play, Anna unplugs her guitar and plays while Tess mimes along and enjoys doing so. Jake is in the audience and he realizes that Anna is the one for him. Tess also realizes how fun music is and promises to treat Anna's band with more respect. Back at the wedding rehearsal, Tess tells Anna to ask Ryan to postpone the wedding, so that Anna will not have to go through marrying him in her mother's body. Instead, Anna proposes a toast where she finally accepts Ryan because of how happy he makes Tess. This is the final act of selfless love needed to break the spell and another earthquake has the two switch back bodies. On the wedding day, Tess and Ryan marry, and Anna and Jake start dating with Tess' approval. Anna's band also plays at the wedding. Pei-Pei's mother attempts to give Harry and Grandpa Alan the body switching fortune cookies when they argue, but Pei-Pei confiscates them in the nick of time (by tackling them to the ground).

It's Boy Girl Thing (2006)

Woody Deane (Kevin Zegers) and Nell Bedworth (Samaire Armstrong) are neighbors and former childhood friends who go to the same high school, but are otherwise completely different. Woody is a popular varsity football player while Nell is a girl who loves literature but lacks social skills. They loathe each other and are constantly in dispute. One day their class goes on a school trip to a museum and they are forced to work together on an assignment. They quickly begin arguing in front of a statue of the ancient Aztecgod Tezcatlipoca.^[5] As they argue, the statue casts a spell upon them — causing them to wake up in each other's bodies the next morning. When they arrive at school, they immediately blame each other for the body swap, but agree to pretend to be the other person until they can find a way to switch back. At first, they seem to succeed, but quickly return to arguing when they each feel the other is misrepresenting them in the opposite body, such as Woody (in Nell's body) answering a question oddly and surprising a teacher.

The following day, Nell (in Woody's body) arrives at school wearing "Chinos and an Oxford cotton button-down" making Woody's appearance look "dorky" which frustrates Woody, and he is even more frustrated after he hears about how Nell (in Woody's body) failed Woody's football practice the previous day. As payback, Woody (in Nell's body) dresses in inappropriate and provocative clothing the following day. After school, Nell (in Woody's body), in retaliation, breaks up with Breanna (Brooke D'Orsay), Woody's girlfriend, much to the disappointment of Woody. The humiliation competition continues when Woody (in Nell's body) drives off with a biker boy, Nicky (Brandon Carrera), and makes Nell (in Woody's body) think she is going to lose her virginity. However, Woody decides it is "so gay" and leaves Nicky just as he is removing his clothing.

The following day, rumors are being spread around school by Nicky about his night with Nell. When Nell (in Woody's body) finds out, she gets very upset. When Woody (in Nell's body) finds Nell (in Woody's body), he admits that he didn't actually lose Nell's virginity and that everyone was simply spreading Nicky's lies. However, Nell is still let down and so Woody (in Nell's body) decides to confront Nicky. It turns out that Woody (in Nell's body) can't fight him, and Nell (in Woody's body) runs up and punches him in the face. After this, Nell and Woody reach a truce and realize the statue of Tezcatlipoca at the museum had something to do with their body swap. They head down to the museum and even after confronting the statue, they fail to return to their original bodies. They realize they are going to have to help each other in two important upcoming events. Nell must learn how to play football for Woody's Homecoming game and Woody must learn about poetry and literature for Nell's Yale interview. Later that night Nell (in Woody's body) is getting drunk at a party while Woody (in Nell's body) is stuck at a slumber party listening to all the gossip about Woody, and surrounded by nailpolish, pajamas and slippers.

After spending so much time together, Nell and Woody become very fond of each other and start to understand each other better. The night before the interview and the game, they agree to go to the Homecoming Dance together, as "not a date." The day of the interview and match, Woody goes to Yale for the interview and at first messes things up and is asked to leave, but he starts to talk about poetry in rap, which impresses and astonishes the interviewer. After that, he goes to the match and watches Nell run in the winningtouchdown in the closing seconds. A college recruiter witnesses his good performance and wants to talk to him later. After the game, they congratulate each other for their successes. Shortly after this, the spell lifts and they return to their original bodies. The scene finishes with Woody being kissed by Breanna and Nell going home very upset about it.

The following day, Woody tries to talk to Nell but is stopped by her mother, who sees Woody's family as uneducated. Nell receives a letter from Yale informing her that she has been accepted to Yale, meaning that her interview (done by Woody in her body) was successful. However, she is still upset with Woody and has decided not to go to the Homecoming Dance. Meanwhile, Nell's father has a talk with her on the porch about Woody, during which she confesses she truly likes him, and her father surprises her with a dress and shoes for the dance. Woody and Breanna selected as the Home Coming King and Queen. The Home Coming King and Queen prepare to dance. At the dance, an upset Woody sees Nell and both confesses their love for each. They leave the school together and share a kiss in front of their houses. The following day, Nell tells her mother that she is taking a year's sabbatical before attending Yale, and hops into Woody's car as they drive off together.

Switch (1991)

A promiscuous and rather misogynistic man, Steve (Perry King) is murdered by one of his three ex-lovers, and after death, the powers that be cannot decide whether to send him to heaven or to hell—his life is full of good deeds, but he's "been a shit" to women, and that behavior is keeping him from going to heaven. The powers that be decide to give him a test; he is reincarnated and given a limited amount of time to have at least one woman like him. To make the test more difficult, he is reincarnated as a beautiful woman (Ellen Barkin) named Amanda. After the change, Amanda/Steve encounters other people, including Steve's friend Walter, whom Amanda convinces of the truth of her identity, and lesbian perfume magnate Sheila. Both become attracted to Amanda, but Amanda rebuffs Sheila's advances, even knowing that she is giving up an opportunity for a woman to love her, even though he had sex exclusively with women, as Steve, in the past. Later, Amanda and Walter get drunk together and end up having sex. In the morning, Amanda claims no memory of the sex and accuses Walter of raping her. Walter acts surprised and insists that Amanda was an enthusiastic participant. Amanda rejects Walter, but she learns shortly thereafter that she has become pregnant from the encounter. At the childbirth, the baby girl gazes upon her mother with love, and then Amanda dies, having earned her place in heaven.

Tsubakiyama Kacho No Nanoka Kan (2006)

Manager Kazuaki Tsubakiyama, 46, dies of overwork the night after the opening day of a major sale at the department store where he works. Claiming unfinished business, he appeals to the authorities in the afterlife and is given permission to briefly return to this world. Coming back at the same time are Yuta Negishi, 8, a boy who died in a traffic accident, and Isamu Takeda, 45, a yakuza boss who was killed in a case of mistaken identity—each of them inhabiting different bodies from when they were alive. There are three crucial rules to which they must all adhere: never reveal their true identity, refrain from revenge, and return to the afterlife in seven days without fail. Break any of those rules, and there will be terrible consequences.

Tsubakiyama comes back as a beautiful woman aged 30. When he goes to look in on his wife and son, he is shocked to find his dashing assistant manager Shimada with them, and to learn that his son is not really his. He also discovers that his father, who lives in a facility for dementia patients, moved there only out of consideration for Tsubakiyama and his family, and does not actually have dementia at all.

The young boy Yuta, who had lived a pampered life as the son of a wealthy family in one of the mansions of Seijo, a posh Tokyo suburb, learns that he had been adopted at the age of three. He has many happy memories from his brief life, and now in the body of a little girl, he sets out to find his biological parents, hoping to express his gratitude to them. Tsubakiyama's father and son both come to Yuta's aid. But when Yuta finally finds his parents, he breaks the rule against revealing his true identity.

Takeda comes back as a lawyerly gentleman. Meeting with his yakuza brothers in an effort to discover how he was mistakenly killed, he tries to head off a plot by his six henchmen to avenge his death. But when he sees one of his men pointing a gun at the man who killed him, he grabs it away from him and ends up killing the man himself, thereby breaking the rule against revenge.

Through the journey each of these characters makes back to this world, the story probes the meaning of blood relations, the ties that bind parent and child, and our bonds with others who move in and out of our lives. In Jiro Asada's trademark style, it is a warmly human tale that is sure to moisten the reader's eyes.

Wish Upon a Star (1996)

The two Wheaton sisters share a household and a high school, but both feel that they have little else in common. 18-year-old Alexia's (Katherine Heigl) days revolve around being popular, dressing stylishly, and spending time with her jock boyfriend, while exerting minimal effort academically. While 15-year-old Hayley (Danielle Harris) is socially reserved, admiring her older sister's popularity from a distance while excelling in her studies, particularly science and mathematics. Hayley and Alexia don't get along well at all, with Hayley resenting her reliance on her frequently late sister for a ride to school and Alexia preferring not to be seen with her less-than-cool younger sister.

One night, Hayley is outside studying the night sky for her science class, while Alexia relaxes in the outdoor hot tub with her boyfriend, Kyle (Don Jeffcoat). When Hayley sees a shooting star, she wishes aloud to become her sister Alexia, then turns to see Alexia also watching the sky. The two of them awaken the next morning to find themselves trapped in each other's body. Hayley assumes responsibility for the swap, mentioning her wish.

Distraught, Alexia forbids Hayley to go to school in her place, and she instigates a variety of wish-making attempts for Hayley to reverse their condition, all of which are unsuccessful. Hayley is content to fill her sister's role for the day, as she can now experience the glamor of Alexia's life firsthand.

After the first day ends, they realize that they may be stuck like this for a while. They each spend the next few days purposely trying to ruin anything important to the other, such as their social reputation and extra-curricular activities. One day, Hayley (in Alexia's body) wears the same outfit that she had worn the day before, and Alexia (in Hayley's body) goes to school dressed up as a dominatrix.

Their parents choose not to interfere, as they had just started a "hands-off" approach to parenting. Eventually Hayley and Alexia learn to look at their lives with new perspective. As they each become accustomed to the other's life, they begin to relate to one another better and become closer as sisters.

While spending an evening outside searching for a shooting star to make their wish to switch back, they decide to spend one more day as each other. Hayley's task (in Alexia's body) is to help convince her teachers that Alexia is not an "airhead," and Alexia (in Hayley's body) is to help show Hayley how easily Hayley can get a guy.

Hayley's and Alexia's plans work, and they decide that it's time for them to switch back. As they lay outside watching for a shooting star, they fall asleep early; Hayley wakes up during the night in time to wish on a star. When she awakens the next morning, she finds that they didn't switch back and believes that they will never be able to return to their own bodies, but she doesn't tell Alexia.

Alexia and Hayley attend the Winter Festival dance, where Hayley breaks down and tells Alexia that they can't switch back. Alexia then confesses that she saw the first shooting star when she was with Kyle and wished to be Hayley, since she had been jealous of Hayley's intellect and well-structured plans for her future.

Realizing that it was their combined wishing that caused their switch, they sit outside and, seeing a shooting star, wish together to be themselves again. Opening their eyes, they are delighted to see their wish has come true. They return to the Winter Festival, where Alexia is crowned queen. She then dances on stage with her boyfriend, while Hayley finds their new neighbor Simon and dances with him.

Just Follow Law (2007)

Lim Teng Zui is a WAS technician who is also a single father to a young girl named Xiao Mei. He is employed by the director of WAS' Events and Promotion department, the prideful Tanya Chew. Tanya stays in a condominium and has a single mother, a blogger whom she has neglected. Lim has drawn little salary, and strives hard to earn more so that he can buy Xiao Mei a piano and original abalone, whereas Tanya constantly tries to improve the terrible image of her department. Both workers are under employment of Alan Lui, the CEO of WAS.

One day, Alan briefs Tanya, Lau Chee Hong, Eric Tan and Uncle Tiong about Minister Seetoh accompanying China's Minister of Manpower, Mr. Chen and his delegates will be visiting the department. As such they are to portray the company in the best light as possible. All departments are briefed, but Tanya's arrogance leaves her crew unmotivated to prepare for the day.

Along with the technical faults in her department and the paperwork needed to fix it, Tanya's department has a huge clutter of unwanted junk in the office. In an effort to prepare for the VIP visit, they decide to put the junk outside temporarily. Knowing it still will remain an eyesore, Alan tells Tanya to conceal it some way, who in turn gets her crew to do so. Eventually Lim is left to handle the matter on his own. He manages to build a temporary wall, yet company incompetence in obtaing supplies leaves the wall completed half-heartedly with masking tapes used instead of nails.

On the day of the visit, all goes well with the Ministers. Finishing with a photoshoot, the group decides to stand in front of the wall, when it unfortunately gives way due pressure on the section which masking tapes was used. An investigation is carried out, and 'finger-pointing' is done to find the scapegoat, in which Lim is blamed. As a result, his bonus is cut, and Lim stems his anger toward Tanya. Their confrontation leads into a car chase in which he chases Tanya's 1998 Seat Toledo in his Citroën Berlingo until the vehicles collide, causing both to run off the flyover and fall down to the beach.

The duo are knocked unconscious due to this resulting accident, and are sent to the hospital. They are in critical condition, yet amazingly both recover, but Lim wakes up and finds out that he is in Tanya's body while Tanya is in Lim's. They are forced to accept into living in each other's roles and work under their respective bodies' occupation. "Lim" upgrades her/his skills as a technician, while "Tanya" idles around, performing poorly in his/her capacity as a department director.

Due to "Tanya"'s negligence, the department grossly overspends and the CEO, together with Chee and Eric, two department heads who had been offended by Tanya earlier, plans to shut down the department. In an attempt to save it from closure, Tanya and Lim plan to put on a successful Job Fair Exhibition so that the CEO would think twice about shutting it down. Tanya and Lim try ways of getting publicity, but red tape and lack of information gets in their way and they would have to wait at least three months to be able to do anything. However, it proceeds smoothly, and Tanya hires a pyrotechnics operator, who is actually a demolition expert. After a series of trials and tribulations, the Job Fair is realized.

During the fair, Chee and Eric attempt to sabotage the Fair, again by confiscating nails needed for the stage backdrop but Tanya and Lim repaired quickly by means of masking tape. Tanya and Lim deal with the obstacles as they come until the final sing-along session on stage, with the VIP. However, the stage catches fire as the planned pyrotechnics combined with the pyrotechnician's disobedience and the direction of the launching cannon towards the curtain clash. Having trapped in the ensuing utter chaos, the people dash about the stage in every direction, finding a way out. The VIP finally finds an escape route when the taped stage backdrop falls off. Many of them have managed to escape without any single casualty, and thus the situation is under control. As the Civil Defense firefighters arrive on the scene to put out the fires, Tanya rescues Lim's daughter. Both Lim and Tanya realise the neglect they left on their loved ones when Tanya's mother and Xiao Mei embrace their original bodies.

A board of inquiry looks into the actions during the fire. Later during the 2007 National Creativity Award ceremony, Lim was awarded for his use of masking tapes to save 53 lives and his initiative to invent a fire escape wall.

Two months later, the statutory board has folded as WAS shuts down with several outcomes on its key members; Uncle Tiong retires because of his heart attack, Eric is sacked and has his pension (CPF) confiscated when their plot is discovered, Chee becomes the first director in history to receive pink slip for skills obsolete and CEO Alan is blacklisted for making too many mistakes, but later establishes the Minced Pork Organisation, only to be dissolved months later.

Lim and Tanya, having going in their separate ways other than working, decide to re-enact the accident in an attempt to switch back to their original bodies. They start their same vehicles and drive off at the same time and place, doing the same collision. As the credits roll, Lim and Tanya's attempts are revealed to be unsuccessful, but they still remain together and get married. Lim and Xiao Mei move in with Tanya, and all now live a happier life.

Dating the Enemy (1996)

Dating The Enemy (1996) is an Australian comedy about a boyfriend and girlfriend who swap bodies and have to live as each other. One Valentine's evening a group of single, dateless friends get together to play Trivial Pursuit. Brett (Guy Pearce), a friend of the host from Melbourne, has just landed a job as presenter of a TV gossip show. He is brash and self-confident. Tash (Claudia Karvan) is a science journalist for a national newspaper, studious, intense and self-conscious. They have nothing in common, so naturally they get it together.

A year later and Brett's career is going well, there is the possibility of a job in New York and popularity has gone to his head. Tash is still trying to write serious scientific articles for a paper more interested in gossip and sex and struggling to prevent her articles being buried on page 12. Their relationship is on the rocks. That night during a Valentine's boat trip on Sydney Harbour, an argument ensues and Brett decides he has had enough. Tash tells him: 'I wish you could be me, so you could see how I feel for once. I wish I could be you, so I could show you what an idiot you've become!'.

That night is a full moon and fate decides to lend a hand. They wake to find that each is in the other's body. A month of each pretending to be the other ensues and they have to learn what it's really like to be in the other person's shoes. Tash has to try to keep Brett's high-profile career on track. Brett is so bored by Tash's job, he ends up trying to make science sexy. Each learns to appreciate the other as only together can they make this enforced predicament work out.
